STEPPING UP THE QUALITY CREDO The quality odyssey of the EPZ Labour Welfare Fund started in 1994 when the EPZ Labour Welfare Fund resolved to sponsor MEPZA's National Quality Award. This sponsorship has been kept ongoing to this date and in line with the New Corporate Plan (1997-2002) will be expected to continue till June 2002. Moreover, the Fund is currently a member of the adjudicating panel for the Most Productive Employee Award, an award which scans economic sectors, including the Export Processing Zone. In May 1996 a major breakthrough in quality venture was made when the Fund embarked in an in-house excellence programme geared towards reducing process time and exceeding customer's expectations. This was followed by the participation of the Fund in the 50th World Quality Congress in Chicago and a US sponsored post-congress tour in quality related matters Since 1996 the Fund strengthened its commitment to the World Quality Movement through participation in local and international Quality Congresses. In August 1997 the Fund acceded to the position of "Sustaining Member of the American Society for Quality." In 1998, the Fund was made a founder member of the Mauritian Quality Institute.
